A "Must Have" Approach
For Your Beginning Reading Program

Effective As Well As Inexpensive!

And It's Fun To Use!

Appropriate for Regular Classrooms, Special Education, Tutors, and Parental use at home.

This unique visual-conceptual method of teaching the 220 high frequency Dolch Sight Words uses pictures embedded in the words to help students quickly learn this important sight vocabulary. The Dolch Words comprise 65-85% of the text of primary reading materials. The child who can recognize on sight 8 out of 10 of the words in the sentence before him can understand what he is reading, and generally can use context and phonics to decode the remaining two words. He is, at that point, a reader! After mastering the sight words, he profits more readily from phonics instruction and then can apply those principles to decipher the remaining 20 per cent of the text.

Regular Classrooms. When "Picture Me Reading!" is used a few minutes every day in the regular Kindergarten classroom, it is not unusual for most of the students to master all or most of the Dolch Sight Words. Those students enter First Grade already reading fluently! First Grade teachers who aren't lucky enough to receive students who have had this background can use "Picture Me Reading!" to help their children get a speedy "jump start" into reading.

Special Education. Special Educators have obtained wonderful results with "Picture Me Reading!" Feedback from the field shows that dyslexic, Down Syndrome, autistic, Fragile X Syndrome, language disordered and other seriously handicapped children regularly obtain gratifying results with "Picture Me Reading!" even when other methods fail.

Tutors and Aides. Our products are effective when used by tutors, classroom aides, and parent volunteers. The method is very helpful with ESL students, who learn the language and reading simultaneously. We can provide ideas to help you establish an effective tutoring program.

Parents. For about the price of a pizza, a parent can purchase basic materials for use at home, either to reinforce what is being taught in the classroom or help a lagging student catch up. Some schools make our materials available for check-out to parents, and PTAs have purchased our products for use by both teachers and parents. No special training is necessary for successful teaching! "Picture Me Reading!" is rapidly gaining acceptance by and popularity with parents and teachers. Feedback ranges from positive to ecstatic.

Visual-conceptual flashcards with pictorial cues on one side, and the word without this cue on the other side, are the core of the "Picture Me Reading!" approach. Supplementary teaching materials, such as booklets and stickers, are also available.
