Our Special Needs Planning and Special Education Attorneys work for the Empowerment of People with Special Needs in New York State

Special Needs Planning
At Littman Krooks, our attorneys will help you plan for your loved one with special needs. Special needs planning and special education advocacy are two of our core practice areas. We know that caring for a person with special needs involves a deep emotional connection, and we provide a number of specially developed services to help enhance the person's quality of life. If you became unable to provide these services or if you pass away without planning for their continuation, your loved one's quality of life may suffer.

Our attorneys use a person-centered approach to assist you with all manner of special needs planning issues, which are an important part of estate planning. We can establish comprehensive care plans organized so that money for your loved one with special needs will not be at risk from estate taxes or the long-term care costs of caregivers. We can also assist with applying for SSI benefits for a person with disabilities and applying and qualifying for Medicaid. We can also help you provide for a person with special needs in your will, apply for guardianship and set up a special needs trust or supplemental needs trust.

Special Education Advocacy
The special education process can be overwhelming. The assistance of experienced counsel can make a world of difference. Children with special needs are entitled to a "free and appropriate" education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA). There are several other statutes that protect children's rights, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, No Child Left Behind, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other New York State and federal laws. Understanding what these statutes and regulations mean for your child is complex and time-consuming work. We can help you put them into plain language and choose the best course of action in response to each one.

At Littman Krooks, we understand that each child has unique needs. We serve clients throughout New York State and have offices in New York City and White Plains. Our attorneys and special education advocates have been highly successful in obtaining the services that our young clients require and deserve.
