We have all known at least one young adult who has the academic ability to succeed in college but lacks the social, emotional and independent living skills to navigate the complexities of a college campus because of a neurobiological disorder. Often, these students have had to settle for something less than a college education and have struggled to find a place in the adult world. Finally…there's an answer!
The Gersh Experience, in partnership with Daemen College, offers fully accredited college level courses leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in a variety of majors in the Arts and Sciences, Health and Human Services, and Pre-professional studies. The goal of our program is to provide the optimal level of support needed for our students to earn a four-year college degree while developing the skills they will need to succeed in the adult world.
The Gersh Experience at Daemen College serves students with high functioning neurobiological disorders such as Aspergers Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Tourette's Syndrome, Anxiety, Depressive and Bi-Polar Disorders and Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities. We provide a customized education plan for each of our students based on their individual academic, social, and emotional needs.
Beyond academics, our program supports our students in the ongoing development of their independent living skills and social skills by providing direct instruction in these areas as well as opportunities for practice through social and recreational outings and real life experiences.
Fortunately for the students in need, the Gersh organization has been providing customized education such as this for more than ten years!
