Ombudsman turns academically at-risk struggling teens in Georgia into high school graduates ready for success. Potential high school dropouts are launched on a path toward academic recovery. Whether they seek further education or enter the job market, these teens are ready to take that next step. The program's student population reflects the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic mix of the referring school district.

Meeting the Individual Needs of Each Student:

The Ombudsman program is designed to support students of all ability levels. We provide an accredited, alternative learning option in conjunction with the students' respective school districts.

Assessment: An academic assessment of each new student in reading, writing and mathematics skills is done in order to match the student's skills with the appropriate educational materials. Then, with input from their school districts, an IEP, or individualized education / learning plan is developed for the student from various components of the middle school/high school curriculum.

Learning / Teaching Strategies: Ongoing assessment of the student's academic skills allows us to customize the learning path for each student's needs and expected outcomes. The program guides students into taking responsibility for their academic success anand demonstrating a commitment to learning. By focusing on quality work and providing students with a unique and technologically enhanced learning environment and excellent staff, students are motivated to succeed.

Ombudsman programs provide students with a low student/teacher ratio and dedicated staff of professionals in a technologically enhanced learning environment. Our educational approach is competency-based, self-paced three-hour computer assisted instruction and an array of supplementary learning activities. Teachers are available for assistance.

Success:Throughout its 30 years of service to more than 100,000 students, Ombudsman students have achieved an 85% retention rate. Most importantly, many students feel success for the first time, achieving academic goals necessary to earn promotion to the next grade, accrue credits on a semester basis, and/or graduate from high school and/or middle school.

Our centers are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation, and Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools.
